La Chinita International Airport is located 15km from the centre of Maracaibo, Venezuela. It opened in November 1969 as a gateway to western Venezuela and to relieve congestion at Simón Bolívar International Airport at Caracas, which handles about 90% of the country's international flights. Caracas is the most popular destination, but Maracaibo also serves other domestic airports, as well as such international destinations as Miami and Aruba.
