Car Rental Rustenburg, South Africa
Rustenburg is located at the base of the Magaliesberg mountains in South Africa's North West Province, 115km east of Pretoria and 118km north-west of Johannesburg. One of the host cities for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Rustenburg has a temperate humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters, although its elevated position tends to mitigate the harshness of the summer temperatures.
It is a popular budget destination for those unwilling or unable to pay the high accommodation rates applicable in either Sun City or Pilanesberg National Park, both of which are under 50km away to the south-east.
About Rustenburg
Rustenburg is essentially a large country town with an urban edge. The main drag is Nelson Mandela Drive, a chaotic mass of pedestrians and hawkers dodging honking cars. The Waterfall Mall, off Rte 24 about 3km south of the town centre, is a quieter and more relaxing district for shopping and eating.
Attractions Near Rustenberg
Hiring a car in Rustenberg puts you less than an hour's drive away from Sun City, a deluxe casino and resort bordering the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. As well as four hotels, the complex offers a popular self-catering facility called "The Sun City Vacation Club," and it also has two international-standard 18-hole golf courses, the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Course, both designed by Gary Player. The Lost City Golf Course is famous for the many crocodiles in the water feature of the 13th hole.
If golf and gambling (and crocodiles) are not your thing, visit the game reserve at Pilanesberg. Set in the crater of an extinct volcano (one of the largest of its kind anywhere), Pilanesberg is home to virtually every species of mammal to be found in southern Africa. Here you'll find large populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo - Africa's so-called Big Five.
