Airport Location

Moscow Domodedovo Airport, or Domodedovo International Airport, is Moscow’s biggest international airport, situated 42 kilometres south-southeast of the centre of Moscow. Domodedovo is one of the three major Moscow airports, together with Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.

Picking Up Your Car

If you have booked a rental car through Nova Car Hire, you will meet your representative at the car hire desks, which you will find after you have collected your luggage and entered the arrivals hall.

The ruble or rouble is the currency of the Russian Federation, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia. It is worthwhile to shop around for a good rate on dollars and euros when in Moscow due to the large number of bureaux de change in the city. Other currencies are generally exchanged only at bigger banks or central bureaux de change.

Moscow has a humid continental climate, which means it has warm, humid, short summers, and cold, wet, long winters. Temperatures peak in July at about 23C (73F), but they can plunge to as low as -10C (14F) in February. Snow cover generally starts about the start of November and melts in early April.

In a city that likes to do everything on a grand scale, festivals are a big deal in Moscow. You have not seen a parade until you have watched one in the Russian capital.

Held in February as a final fling before the privations of Lent, Maslenitsa is a time for feasting in Moscow. Participants gorge on pancakes (Maslenitsa derives from the Russian word for butter, maslo) and celebrate with performing bears, group fist fights, bonfires, and the storming of forts made of snow.

Moscow Easter Festival

Home to the Bolshoi and the Moscow Conservatory, the Russian capital has an unrivalled classical pedigree. With composers including Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Rimsky-Korsakov associated with the city, Moscow's Easter Festival celebrates the best of choral, chamber, and classical music. Bell music is performed in some of Moscow's most famous cathedrals.

Victory Day Parade

For the ultimate display of military might, the only place in the world to be on May 9th is Moscow’s Red Square. Commemorating Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, Moscow's Victory Day Parade features thousands of marching servicemen, a mile-long convoy of military vehicles, and a speech by the president.

Russian Winter Festival

Instead of Christmas, Muscovites have the Moscow Winter Festival, a December/January indulgence focusing on entertainment, food, and the appearance of Ded Moroz, the Russian Santa.
