About Bucharest Baneasa Airport
Bucharest Aurel Vlaicu Airport (generally known as Baneasa Airport or Bucharest City Airport) is located in 9km north of the city of Bucharest in Romania. It is named after Aurel Vlaicu, a Romanian engineer, inventor, airplane designer, and pioneering pilot. It served as Bucharest's sole airport until 1965, when the Otopeni Airport(today Henri Coanda International Airport) was opened to civilian use. Since March 2012, when all commercial flight operations were transferred to Henri Coanda International Airport, Aurel Vlaicu International Airport handles only charter flights and private jets.
