Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport serves Kuantan, in the state of Pahang in Malaysia. It is located 15 km from the city and handles more than 220,000 passengers a year. It was the first international airport on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It also houses the Royal Malaysian Squadron (BAE Hawk) and Squadron (MiG-29) fleets.
Kuantan is the state capital of Pahang, Malaysia's third-biggest state. It is located close to the mouth of the Kuantan River, facing the South China Sea, about halfway between Singapore and Kota Bharu. Rent a car in Kuantan, and you are 256km from Kuala Lumpur. Kuantan is Malaysia's ninth-biggest city and the economic and commercial centre for the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
The main attraction for visitors to Kuantan is the beach at Teluk Cempedak. Other popular beaches near the city include Batu Hitam, Balok, Chenor, Pantai Sepat, Beserah, and Cherating. You can also visit the turtle sanctuary near Cherating, and a few kilometres away you will find Pulau Ular (Snake Island), which is associated with ancient legends. Apart from its beaches, Kuantan's other attraction is waterfalls. The best-known is Sungai Pandan, with other famous ones including the Sungai Berkelah Waterfall and the Jerangkang Waterfall.
