About Nuoro, Sardinia
Located right in the heart of Sardinia, Nuoro is easily accessible from any of the island's three airports. It lies 100km from Olbia Airport, 170km from Cagliari Airport, and 135km from Alghero Airport. Perched on the slopes of Monte Ortobene, it is the sixth-biggest city in Sardinia, with a population of more than 36,000.
A number of celebrated artists were born in Nuoro, and the town is home to some of the island's most significant museums, making it an important cultural hub for the region. As such, it is frequently referred to as the "Atene sarda" (Sardinian Athens). Museums include the Museo Archeologico Nazionale (National Archeological Museum), Museo Deleddiano (dedicated to writer Grazia Deledda, Museo Etnografico Sardo (Sardinian Museum of Ethnography), and Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro (Provincial Modern Art Museum).
The province of Nuoro is a naturally beautiful place. Most of the Gennargentu massif is located here, but the landscape is extremely varied, with craggy mountains, green valleys, scenic plateaus, and a lovely coastline dotted with pretty caves and inlets. Among the many beaches worth visiting, the highlights are Berchida and Capo Comino in the Siniscola district.
