Car Rental Bari Airport
Bari Airport is located about 12km northwest of the centre of Bari in the neighborhood of Palese. Also known as Palese Airport, its official name is Aeroporto di Bari Karol Wojtyla, after the late Pope John Paul II. A medium-sized airport, it handles about 3.8 million passengers annually. Bari Airport is considered the gateway to the south of Italy, due to the proximity of the major port city of Bari and the southern region of Puglia. It dates back to the 1930s, when it was constructed by the Regia Aeronautica and used as a military airfield.
Bari is fighting hard to overcome its reputation as a slightly seedy port city, and it seems to be succeeding. Once considered the Bronx of southern Italy, this gateway from Italy to neighbouring countries is home to a well-preserved old town, complete with original medieval street plan and a host of historic buildings and sites. The so-called Bari Vecchia is a fascinating maze of atmospheric streets. With its selection of hip bars and restaurants, it is no longer an unsafe place to go after dark. The capital of Puglia and one of the south's most prosperous cities, Bari is a town reborn.
