Car Hire Lefkas - Nidri
Lefkas (also known as Lefkada, Leucas, Leucadia, and Leukas) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, linked to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge. The main town is Lefkada, which is located in the north of the island, 19.5km west of Nidri. Just 35km long and 15km wide, Lefkas is easy to discover with car hire.
About Nidri
Located on the east coast of the island, to the south of Lygia, Nikiana, and Perigali, Nidri is the biggest resort on Lefkas. It nestles in a sheltered cove looking across to Skorpios (a private island once owned by Aristotle Onassis), Meganissi, and the Greek mainland. The main coastal road from Lefkada to Vasiliki runs through Nidri, but a bypass means traffic now skirts the village to the west. Regular car ferries operate from Nidri to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi.
An energetic little town, Nidri centres on a lively main street with a harbour road running parallel to it. You can eat right at the water's edge, with authentic Greek tavernas and restaurants serving international cuisine nestled near the harbour. The main street is lined with buzzing bars and clubs that stay open until late. Hire a car in Nidri and drive 17km north to Lefkas, the island's capital. Head across the landbridge to the Greek mainland, and you can be in ancient Nicopolis in an hour, or explore the islands just off the coast.
