About Perpignan
Perpignan is the capital of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. Tucked among the foothills of the Pyrenees, Perpignan has a distinctive Spanish feel. The central old town is a labyrinth of winding lanes and colourful streets, and though it may feel a little grittier than cities like Montpellier and Nimes, it has a strong multicultural flavour.
Perpignan used to be the capital of the kingdom of Mallorca, and the Mallorcan kings' palace still looms over the southern end of the old town. In later years, the town became a significant commercial centre and remains the third-largest 'Catalan' city after Barcelona and Lérida in Spain. The population of Perpignan is close to 120,000. Motorway A9 connects Perpignan with Barcelona and Montpellier.
Perpignan - Rivesaltes Airport , (otherwise called Llabanère Airport) is located 7.5km from Perpignan and 7.7km from Rivesaltes, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southwestern France. It operates regular flights to Paris Orly, Charleroi, and London Stansted. Seasonal flights go to and from Dublin, Ajaccio, Calvi, Lille, Amsterdam, Birmingham, Southampton and Nantes.
