About Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes is a substantial "new" town in Buckinghamshire, England. Built in the 1960s to ease housing congestion, it is about 72km northwest of London. It has a population of approximately 232,000 and is predicted to be bigger than Newcastle and Brighton by 2031.
If you rent a car in Milton Keynes, you can visit the Bletchley Park Museum where World War II code-breakers decrypted ciphers devised by the German Enigma and Lorenz machines. The museum's prime exhibits include the rebuilt Colossus, one of the world's first modern digital computers. Milton Keynes is also home to Europe's largest indoor snow slope, Xscape, and it has a roofed skateboarding arena called the Buszy.
Despite its reputation as a maze of concrete, Milton Keynes is a remarkably green town, with 22 million trees, and it performs consistently well in Britain in Bloom competitions. Equidistant from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Cambridge, it is easy to navigate because it is built in a grid system, with vertical roads called "...Street" and horizontal ones called "...Way."
