About Bradford, England
Bradford is a city in the borough of West Yorkshire, in Northern England. Located among the foothills of the Pennines, 14 km west of Leeds, and 26 km northwest of Wakefield. it has a population of 1.5 million, making it the United Kingdom's fourth biggest urban area.
During the 19th century, Bradford became famous as an international textile manufacturing centre. The Industrial Revolution made it a boom town, giving it a reputation as the "wool capital of the world". Since the mid-20th century, however, manufacturing has declined in the area, and Bradford has developed as a tourist destination, becoming the first UNESCO City of Film.
When you rent a car in Bradford, you should check out attractions such as the National Media Museum, Bradford City Park, the Alhambra theatre and Cartwright Hall. Bradford's oldest building is the Medieval cathedral, and there are several fine Victorian buildings, including the City Hall, the former Wool Exchange, and a substantial Victorian cemetery at Undercliffe. The wonderful Victorian commercial district Little Germany (just east of the city centre) is named for the 19th-century German Jewish immigrants who operated businesses from some of the many listed buildings.
