About Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte is North Carolina's biggest city, and, with close to 800,000 residents, the nation's 16th most populous city. The city is a significant financial hub for the United States, with both Bank of America and Wells Fargo's East Coast operations headquartered here. Charlotte is nicknamed the Queen City because Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz became queen consort of Great Britain in 1762, the year before the city's founding. It has a humid subtropical climate and is located southeast of Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina.
