A Brief Guide to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria 

Las Palmas is the capital of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. It's located on the north-eastern coast of the island and about half Gran Canaria's population live here. It's just over an hour's drive from here to some of the lively tourist resorts in the south of the island.

It's not just a busy urban area, Las Palmas also boasts some stunning beaches including Playa de las Alcaravaneras and Playa de las Canteras. Attractions include the Auditorio located at the end of Las Canteras Beach, Parque de Santa Catalina, the Vegueta District which is Las Palmas' old quarter, the city harbour Puerta de la Luz and much more.

It's the main retail centre on the island and has all the usual high street stores along with the well known Spanish retail institution El Corte Ingles. You'll also find plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants throughout the city as you stroll around its plazas and cobblestone streets.
