Gran Canaria – Discover the island at your leisure

Gran Canaria is a fantastic holiday destination all year round with average monthly temperatures ranging from a low of 18°C in December to a high of 26°C in August. It's the third largest of the Canary Islands and it's capital is Las Palmas, located in the north east of Gran Canaria.

Gran Canaria boasts miles of beautiful coastline with stunning beaches and it’s a fascinating island to explore. The biggest tourist resort on Gran Canaria is undoubtedly Playa del Ingles on the south of the island while nearby Maspalomas has some of the best beaches. Built on two large hills Puerto Rico is located on the southwest coast of the island and has two main beaches, Puerto Rico Beach and Amadores Beach.

Car hire is the best way to see Gran Canaria. You can plan your own day trips, take in the stunning scenery and soak up the unique atmosphere and culture. The driving laws on the island are the same as they are in the rest of Spain. The speed limit on the motorways is 120km/hr, some roads have a limit of 80km/hr while in urban and built up areas it's 50km/hr. Driving is on the right hand side of the road.

The main motorways on the island are the GC1 (Las Palmas to Puerto Rico) and the GC2 (Las Palmas to Agaete). Some of the smaller roads can be a bit challenging though, but the stunning scenery will make it all worthwhile.
