Rustenburg was founded in 1851, at the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountains in the North West Province of South Africa. It is one of the fastest growing cities in South Africa and this is largely due to the Platinum mines that are located here. The football stadium for the 2010 World Cup in Rustenburg is called the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. The England national team played a 1-1 draw against the USA here in their Group game opener.
It is home to the two largest platinum mines in the world, the PMR (Precious Metal Refiners) refinery mines upwards of 70% of the world’s platinum!
The N4 heads east towards Pretoria which is just over 100kms away. It should be noted that the N4 is a toll road. You can reach Sun City by heading NE on the R510 for 30kms and then turn onto the R556 until you get to the city. Here you will find the Pilanesberg Game Reserve and it also has the closest airport to Rustenburg, Pilanesburg International Airport
