Polokwane (formerly called Pietersburg) is the capital of the Limpopo province in South Africa. Limpopo province is the most northerly province and this gives Polokwane a great strategic location inbetween Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Within the city itself, there is much to see and do including Polokwane Game Reserve and the Bakone Malapa Northern Sotho Open-Air Museum.

On the border between Limpopo and Mozambique is the Kruger National Park, largest in the country though there are few other parks located close to the city including Makapansgat Valley, Wolkberg Wilderness Area and the Bewaarskloof Nature Reserve.

The N1 passes in a North-South direction through the city. If you head north you will eventually get to Zimbabwe, if you head south you can eventually get to Pretoria and Johannesburg. To the east, the R71 road can bring you to Kruger through Tzaneen.

The Gateway International Airport is located to the north of the city and is serves a wide variety of destinations in Sub-Saharan Africa including Johannesburg.
