Car Hire Durban International Airport
In 2010, Durban International Airport was replaced as Durban's international airport by King Shaka International, about 40km from the city. The South African Air Force and the Police Air Wing used Durban International Airport during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but it has since been decommissioned.
Collect your rental car at Durban airport and get ready for a wealth of opportunities to explore this exciting part of South Africa. Collect your hire car and travel south to discover Margate, East London, Port Elizabeth, and the Garden Route. Or choose the north for coastal parks and, further afield, the magic of Swaziland and the Drakensberg Mountains.
Durban is often bypassed in favour of Cape Town, but this is an unfair omission. Affectionately known as Durbs, the city underwent an impressive makeover in advance of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, with the installation of a state-of-the-art stadium and the refurbishment of the beachfront. Apart from these new developments, the city offers great cultural attractions, cool cafes, and wonderful shops. South Africa's sporting capital, Durban is a mecca for both spectator sports and outdoor pursuits, with a wealth of golf courses and sporting venues and, of course, those gorgeous golden sands.
