Faro Airport Car Rental

Faro Airport is located 7km west of Faro city in the heart of the popular Algarve region of Portugal. About 6 million passengers use Faro Airport annually, and the airport has become particularly busy since March 2010, when Ryanair chose to base seven of its aircraft there. Peak time at the airport is the summer season, from March to October, when it becomes a slot-coordinated airport.

Refer to your Nova Car Hire booking confirmation document to check the opening times for the car rental provider that Nova has found for you. Once you land, make your way to the public area of the Arrivals Hall, where staff at the car rental company will direct you to your rental car. Collect your hire car from Faro Airport and you're within easy reach of Faro city and the many local resorts via the N-125 motorway. In fact, resorts such as Alvor, Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos, and Praia da Rocha are all within an hour's drive of Faro Airport in your rental car.

About Faro

Although most people abandon Faro for their chosen Algarve resort as soon as they land at Faro Airport, this city has more than enough charm to warrant an overnight stay. Built by the Romans and captured by both the Moors and the Christians, the walled city is full of historic attractions and lively nightspots. The Cidade Velha (“old town”) neighborhood is home to any historical buildings that have not been destroyed by wars or earthquakes.

You enter through the Arco da Vila gate to discover a delightful maze of cobblestone streets and charming white buildings with intricate balconies. Standing guard over Cidade Velha is the Sé cathedral, originally built in 1251. The fascinating Capela dos Ossos, or Chapel of Bones, at the Igreja do Carmo is also worth a visit.
