The county town of Leicestershire, Leicester is a city in the East Midlands of England. It is located on the River Soar, at the edge of the National Forest. Including the wider urban area, Leicester is home to some 509,000 people, making it the United Kingdom's 10th biggest city. Leicester was a Roman military outpost, and its name is believed to originate from the words "castra" of the "Ligore," meaning "camp of the dwellers on the (river) Legro."
