About Bristol, England
Bristol is the largest city in South West England. With an estimated population of more than 1.1 million in the larger urban area, it ranked among the top three cities in England until the rise of Liverpool, Manchester, and Birmingham after the Industrial Revolution.Bristol borders the counties of Somerset and Gloucestershire and is also adjacent to the historic cities of Bath to the south east and Gloucester to the north.
The city centres on the River Avon and has a short coastline on the Severn Estuary, which flows into the Bristol Channel. As a result, Bristol's economic activity has been associated with the sea since ancient times. In more recent years the economy has depended on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city centre docks have been regenerated as a centre of heritage and culture
Bristol has a number of world-class attractions. Among them is Britain's most famous historic ship - the award-winning Brunel's SS Great Britain. It also boasts a landmark suspension bridge, the world's fifth oldest zoo, At-Bristol Science Centre, and an exceptional collection of free city museums.
