About Hirtshals, Denmark
Hirtshals is a town and seaport on the coast of Skagerrak on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy located at the tip of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. A small town, Hirtshals has about 6,000 residents and is best known for its fishing and ferry harbours. It serves as Norwegian ferry company Color Line's Danish terminal and is a hub for thousands of Norwegian, German and Dutch tourists travelling between Hirtshals and the Norwegian cities of Kristiansand and Larvik.
The town of Hirtshals grew up around the man-made harbour that was built between 1919 and 1931. In 1925, the Hjorring-Hirtshals railway line connected the port of Hirtshals with the Danish rail network. The harbour was extended in 1965, making it one of Denmark's biggest fishing ports.
