About Brno, Czech Republic
Located in Moravia, Brno is the Czech Republic's second-biggest city after Prague. Located where the Svitava and Svratka rivers meet, it is home to about 400,000 people - or some 730,000, if you include the greater urban area. It is the seat of the Czech Republic's judicial authority and an important administrative centre. It is also a major centre for higher education, with more than 30 higher educational institutes.
Rent a car in Brno and explore the fascinating region of Moravia. A stark contrast to Bohemia, in the west, Moravia is a place of wine, refined architecture, and pastoral landscapes. There are some great buildings in Brno, including the Vila Tugendhat, designed by the modern master Mies van der Rohe in 1930 and included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Brno is also home to one of Europe's biggest exhibition centres, the Brno Exhibition Centre, which established the city as a centre for major exhibitions and trade fairs.
Brno's main attractions include Špilberk fort and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov hill, a pair of medieval buildings that define Brno's skyline. The other significant intact castle within the city limits is Veveří Castle by the Brno Dam Lake. Among the natural wonders of the area is the Moravian Karst.
