Getting to and from Manchester Airport
Depart the city of Manchester by following signs for the M56 Motorway (signposted Chester, Warrington, Manchester Airport, Birmingham) and after approximately 7.5 miles leave the motorway by branching left to follow signs for Manchester Airport. Then follow signs for each individual terminal building.
Driving To
To Manchester city centre:
Leave Manchester Airport by following the exit road to lead you onto the M56 Motorway following signs for Manchester. Look to exit the M56 by taking Junction 3 (signposted City Centre, Ring Rd W and N) and then continue forward onto Princess Parkway – A5103.
Stay on this road, following signs for City Centre, and you will come to a roundabout where you should take the 2nd exit onto Medlock Street (signposted City Centre, G Mex Centre). Continue to follow signs for City Centre to arrive in the heart of Manchester city.
To Liverpool:
Leave Manchester Airport by following the exit road to lead you onto the M56 Motorway following signs for Chester. Continue on the M56 for about 10 miles before leaving the motorway at Junction 9 (signposted Preston M6) to join the M6 Motorway.
Travel along the M6 for approximately 4 miles and then exit at Junction 21A (signposted for Liverpool, Southport) to join the M62 Motorway. Continue on the M62 and the motorway will become the A5080 road, which after about 15 miles will bring you into Liverpool. Follow signs for City Centre to reach the centre of Liverpool.
To Carlisle & The Lake District:
Leave Manchester Airport by following the exit road to lead you onto the M56 Motorway following signs for Manchester. Look to exit the M56 by taking Junction 3 (signposted City Centre, Ring Rd) and then follow signs to take you onto the M60 Motorway.
Stay on the M60 for about 15 miles before exiting at Junction 15 onto the M61 Motorway and follow signs for Preston, Wigan, Bolton. Continue on the M61 (following signs for Preston) for approximately 10 miles before joining the M6 Motorway.
Having joined the M6, travel for about 81 miles and exit the motorway at Junction 42 to arrive onto the A6 (signposted Carlisle South, Carlisle). After about 3 miles, this road will lead you into the centre of Carlisle.
To Birmingham (& the midlands):
Depart Manchester Airport by taking the exit road to join the M56 Motorway following signs for Chester. Continue on the M56 for a few miles before leaving the motorway at Junction 7 (signposted Northwich, Birmingham, M6) to join the A556. Continue for approximately 4 miles before coming to a roundabout where you take the 1st exit to arrive onto the M6 Motorway (signposted Birmingham).
Travel along the M6 for approximately 60 miles and then leave the motorway at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham East and Central) to get onto the Aston Expressway – A38 Motorway. Continue on this road and follow signs for City Centre to arrive in the centre of Birmingham.
