Directions from Edinburgh Airport
Getting to and fromEdinburgh Airport is situated 7 miles west of Edinburgh on the A8 road. You can take the city by-pass out of Edinburgh and join the A8, exiting at the two-level junction between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts, following signs for Edinburgh Airport. Driving ToTo Edinburgh city centre: Stay on the A8 by following signs for City Centre and after traveling a few miles (passing Edinburgh Zoo and Murrayfield Stadium) you will arrive in the centre of Edinburgh. To Glasgow (& the west): Travel a short distance and look for the Newbridge Junction where you should branch left to join the M9 Motorway following signs for Glasgow, Edinburgh. You will then come to a junction with the M8 Motorway (signposted Glasgow), which you join and travel along for over 23 miles. After 23 miles on the M8, the motorway ends to become the A8, which you stay on for 3 miles until you reach Shawhead Junction where you rejoin the M8. Continue along the M8 by following signs for Glasgow and City Centre and after a few miles (passing Glasgow Royal Infirmary & Glasgow Cathedral) you will arrive in the centre of Glasgow. To Fort William (& the Scottish Highlands/North): Travel a short distance and at Newbridge Junction Roundabout take the 4th exit to join the M9 Motorway with signs to Forth Bridge, Stirling. Travel for about 28 miles before exiting the M9 at Junction 10 (signposted Stirling, Callander, Crianlarich) and then at the roundabout take 2nd exit onto the A84 (signposted Callander). Drive along the A84 for approximately 28 miles before joining the A85 in the town of Lochearnhead and drive for another 16 miles to Crianlarich where you bear left to join the A82. Stay on the A82 road and follow signs for Fort William to take you through the mountains (over the summit of Rannoch Moor!) and after a distance of 52 miles you will arrive in Fort William. To Stranraer (& the South of Scotland): Travel a short distance and look for the Newbridge Junction where you should branch left to join the M9 Motorway following signs for Glasgow, Edinburgh. You will then come to a junction with the M8 Motorway (signposted Glasgow), which you join and travel along for over 23 miles. After 23 miles on the M8, the motorway ends to become the A8, which you stay on for 3 miles until you reach Shawhead Junction where you rejoin the M8. Stay on the M8 for about 10 miles until you reach Junction 22 and bear left to join the M77 Motorway with signs for Kilmarnock, Prestwick Airport. The M77 will become the A77 and will take you into Kilmarnock where you follow signs for Ayr, Stranraer to keep you on the A77. Continue to stay on the A77 and 63 miles later, after passing through the towns of Ayr and Girvan you will arrive in Stranraer. |
