Getting to and from Birmingham Airport
Birmingham Airport lies 8 miles east of the city of Birmingham in England, United Kingdom
Leaving Birmingham city centre, follow signs for the Ring Road to take you onto the A4540. Stay on the A4540 and continue to follow signs for Ring Road, Birmingham Airport/NEC A45.
After 1.5 miles at Bordesley Circus Roundabout (Junction 18) take the 2nd exit onto Small Heath Highway – A45 (signposted Birmingham Airport/NEC) and continue on the A45 for about 6 miles before branching left to follow signs for Airport Passenger Terminals. Continue to follow signs for Airport Passenger Terminals and after less than 1 mile you will arrive at Birmingham Airport.
To central Birmingham:
Leave Birmingham Airport by taking the exit road and follow signs for the A45 (signposted Birmingham) road. After a series of roundabouts you will merge onto Coventry Road – A45 and after about 6 miles drive you will arrive at Heybarnes Circus Roundabout.
Here, you should take the 2nd exit to get onto Small Heath Highway – A45, signposted City Centre. Continue to follow signs for City Centre and Bull Ring and after approximately 4 miles you will arrive in central Birmingham.
To Cardiff (& South Wales):
Take the exit road from Birmingham Airport and follow signs for the M42 Motorway (The South West). Travel through several roundabouts, continuing to follow signs for M42 and after 1.5 miles join up with the M42.
Stay on the M42 and keep following signs for The South West and travel for approximately 14 miles before exiting the motorway at Junction 4A (signposted The South West) to join the M5 Motorway.
Drive along the M5 for over 23 miles and then exit the motorway at Junction 8 (signposted M50 South Wales), then at the roundabout take the 2nd exit to get onto the M50 following signs for South Wales.
Continue on the M50 for over 22 miles to reach the end of the motorway and at the roundabout take the 1st exit to get onto the A449 with signs for South Wales. This road will take you into Ross-on-Wye where you should follow signs for the A40 South Wales and join the A40.
Travel on the A40 for over 16 miles before joining the M4 Motorway and stay on this motorway for about 3 miles to the Brynglas Tunnel. Here, you should branch left onto the A48 (signposted Cardiff E and S) and continue along this road, following signs for Cardiff City Centre.
To London (& the South):
Leave Birmingham Airport via the exit road and follow signs for the M42 Motorway (The South West). Travel through several roundabouts, continuing to follow signs for M42 and after 1.5 miles join up with the M42 Motorway.
Travel along the M42 for approximately 8 miles before exiting at Junction 3A to join the M40 Motorway (signposted London). Drive along the M40 for around 86 miles and then look to exit the motorway at Junction 1A in order to join the M25 Motorway.
Stay on the M25 for about 5.5 miles before exiting at Junction 15 to follow signs for London, M4 Motorway. Travel along the M4 and after 10 miles this motorway will become the A4 road. Continue on the A4 road and follow all signs for Central London and after passing through the areas of Hammersmith and Knightsbridge you will reach the centre of London having travelled a further 7 miles.
To Manchester (& the north):
Take the exit road from Birmingham Airport and follow signs for the M42 Motorway (signposted The North M1 and M6). Travel through several roundabouts, continuing to follow signs for M42 and after 1.5 miles join up with the M42.
Travel along the motorway for about 6 miles and then exit at Junction 9 to reach the M6 Toll, following signs for The North West. Continue along the M6 Toll for approximately 17 miles and after passing Toll Plaza join the toll-free M6 Motorway.
Stay on the M6 for over 50 miles and then exit the motorway at Junction 19 to follow signs for Manchester. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A556 (signs for Manchester) and after about 2 miles you’ll reach Bowden Roundabout where you take the 2nd exit to get onto the A56.
Continue along the A56 road and after travelling for over 10 miles and passing through areas of Altrincham, Sale and Stretford (while following signs for City Centre) you will arrive in the centre of Manchester.
