Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMI Airport) serves the city of Nelspruit which is the capital of the Mpumalanga province in the North East of South Africa.
Located close by is the Kruger National Park which is the largest national park in the country (comparable in size to Wales) and it borders Mozambique.
The nearest Kruger gate is the Numbi Gate at 40kms from the airport. Luckily the park has excellent roads and can be successfully navigated by a normal car, though a 4x4 may offer better comfort on slightly rougher roads.
This is the closest airport you will find to the world famous Kruger National Park, though it only really serves domestic flights so you will have to make a connection through one of the larger cities, such as Johannesburg, if you are flying in from abroad.
The airport is located 22kms outside of Nelspruit, which is itself connected to Pretoria through the N4 road. This road also, when you head the other direction, goes into Mozambique. If you are driving a rental best to be sure that you are allowed cross the border by your car rental agent.
