Getting to Christchurch
From Hanmer Springs:
Leave Hanmer Springs by taking State Highway 7 to travel south through the towns of Culverden, Waikari and Waipara where olive groves and vineyards will line the route. Next towns that you will travel through on State Highway 7 include Amberely, Woodend, Kaiapoi, and Belfast before arriving in Christchurch city — journey is about 85 miles in distance and should take about 1 hour 45 minutes.
From Lake Tekapo:
Depart Lake Tekapo by taking State Highway 79 and follow signs for Fairlie. After passing the town of Fairlie continue onto Geraldine where you look to join State Highway 1. Travel along this road and continue to follow signs for Christchurch city as you pass through the towns of Ashburton, Rakaia and Rolleston. This should take a total of 3 hours and covers a distance of 144 miles.
From Methven:
Leave Methven by travelling along State Highway 77 and following signs for Ashburton. After passing through the town of Winchmore, continue along State Highway 77 all the way to Ashburton where you look to join State Highway 1. Drive along this road and pass through the towns of Rakaia, and Rolleston to reach the city of Christchurch. In total, this should take about 1 hour and 45 minutes and is about 85 miles in distance.
