Getting to and from

From Cathedral Square in Christchurch city centre, go along Columbo Street, and then take Bealey Street and next Harper Avenue. Take a right turn to reach Fendalton Avenue and go forward to Hagley Park before turning into Memorial Avenue. Christchurch Airport is well signposted from the Memorial Avenue roundabout.

To Kaikoura:
Leave Christchurch Airport via northern motorway 1 to travel around Pegasus Bay and through the surfing areas of Woodend, Waikuku and Amberley. Next it’s on to the wine-growing region of Waipara and then to the impressive coastal scenery around Kaikoura where you will have travelled a total of 184km.

To Akaroa:
From Christchurch Airport take the State Highway 75 to travel alongside Lake Ellesmere and Lake Forsyth. Next you will ascend the hills towards Akaroa Harbour and into the French-influenced town of Akaroa (approximately 87km drive in total) where you can enjoy harbour cruises where dolphins, seals and penguins will keep you company!

To Hanmer Springs:
Depart Christchurch Airport along northern motorway 1 to travel around Pegasus Bay and through the surfing areas of Woodend, Waikuku and Amberley.

Next it’s on to the wine-growing region of Waipara where you follow signs for State Highway 7 to take you through the town of Culverden, through Balmoral Forest and onto Hanmer Springs - where tourists flock to enjoy the hot springs and range of spa therapies!
