Main Tourist Attractions

Belfast city has a number of popular tourist attractions that are guaranteed to make your visit a memorable one:

  • City Hall – Probably the most famous landmark of Belfast, sitting at the very centre of the city and displaying some fine examples of Renaissance architecture you can take in a free guided tour of the building which includes a visit to the council chamber and magnificent entrance hall.
  • Botanic Gardens – Located close to the University area of Belfast this is a popular hangout spot on a lazy afternoon. A visit to the impressive Palm House and the Tropical Ravine are not to be missed.
  • W5, whowhatwherewhenwhy – A fantastic interactive centre located within the Odyssey Arena where you can discover loads of facts in an attraction that offers something for all the family. 
  • Ulster Museum – Filled with centuries of art, history, archaeology and natural science. Top attractions include the ‘Treasures of the Armada’ and the ‘Early Ireland gallery.

    The banking system is well established and offers a modern service, ATMs can be found right across the city of Belfast while all major credit cards are accepted without fuss.

    Food & Drink

    Belfast has a wide range of bars and pubs from the traditional confines of the famous Crown Liquor Saloon to the student-popular Botanic Inn. And because of its large student population, Belfast has no end of clubs where you can dance the night away.

    The city centre has a large amount of pubs and restaurants with the area around Shaftesbury Square particularly lively at weekends. And when you eat out in Belfast you’ll find an international flavour to the choices on offer but the local influence quickly comes back into play here in the form of large portions!

    Shopping

    Belfast has loads of fantastic shopping options available. A stroll around the city centre area from City Hall to Royal Avenue will bring you along the commercial centre of Belfast where pedestrianized streets make the shopping experience all the more pleasurable – check out the Castlecourt Shopping Centre and Donegall Arcade where all the leading outlets reside!

    Out of town shopping has become more popular in this area with the main centres being Junction One along with Forestside Shopping Centre and Westwood Shopping Centre.

    Postal Facilities

    Post Offices in Northern Ireland are usually open Monday to Friday with a half-day on Wednesday but its best to check locally for opening times. Postage stamps can be purchased from a range of outlets from newsagents to cafes.

    Public pay phones are located throughout Belfast city and some accept call cards, which can be purchased from retail outlets.
