Ottawa is located in the province of Ontario and it is the Canadian capital. The city was chosen as the capital by Queen Victoria as a compromise as it couldn’t be decided if Montreal or Toronto should be the capital. Ottawa has grown from a simple lumber town to the 4th largest municipality in Canada. As a relatively young city, with a large number of immigrants, you will find that Ottawa is full of energy and optimism.
While you are visiting the city there are a number of important sites worth visiting such as the Parliament Hill (which also does a Sound and Light Show), the Canadian War Museum, the Museum of Civilization, Gatineau Park, and remember all the museums are free access; though can be very crowded in the summer. The city also runs a large number of festivals throughout the year such as the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Winterlude and the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival.
