In the past Ireland was once known as the Land of Saints and Scholars. This title is well deserved, the Scholars part anyway, as Ireland has produced some of the finest writers in history. An attempt to revive that ancient tradition has given birth to the West Cork Literary Festival, held in early July, and it draws poets and storytellers from throughout the island.
