We've put together a comprehensive list of fuel prices across Europe. So when you hire a car in France, Spain or any European country, you'll have an idea of what you'll be spending on petrol - pretty important information if you want to hire a car, we think you'll agree!
Europe: Fuel Prices on the Continent
Here's a handy table of the current average fuel prices for all the main countries across Europe, according to official AA website figures. We update these tables quarterly and they are pretty spot on, but before you book your car hire, you can check the AA website yourself for up to the minute figures.
Just scroll through the table (updated May 09) and find the country of your choice, then match it up to the price per litre (and if you’re not sure about the value of a certain currency just log on to the XE internet currency converter to get an idea).

TOTALULLY NOT USEFULL, i spend 1/2 h. to get the price in Thailand and as i do not understand local currency.. i stil do not know the cost of petrol, in € or $ for instant ....B.C.- #3

Hi nameCHARBONNIER. In Thailand the cost of petrol per litre is THB24.79, which works out to EUR0.56 or USD0.76 (have a look at our 'Petrol Prices in Malaysia, Thailand, NZ, Kenya & South Africa' blog - http://www.novacarhire.com/BLOG/Article/Car-Hire-World-Petrol-Prices.html - just copy and paste onto your internet address space and away you go!). We've since added the conversion rates in Euros to make things easier for you. If you ever have problems with currency rates then have a look this site: http://www.xe.com/ucc/ - you can get the conversion rates from any currency in the world, all in a matter of seconds. Hi!! is it cheaper to buy petrol in france and spain on switch card or cash. It might be a better exchange rate on switch. your comments would be greatly appreciated. regards derek- #5

Hi Derek, thanks for your question. If you're comparing the exchange rate on using a debit card versus the exchange on using cash, well our opinion is that this is really dependent on the type of debit card you have and on the bank that has issued it. If you're comparing a debit card or cash in place of a credit card then our view is that debit cards or cash would be cheaper. When you spend money on a debit card you already have the money in your account. However with a credit card, you essentially borrow the money and therefore have to pay back the money plus interest. That is where the main difference lies. Give us a shout back if you need any further information and we'll do our best to help you work out the best value for money option when buying petrol in France and Spain.- #6

Hi there!! Thanks for info. Recently I took out 200 euros from a bank in Spain using switch card, I was pleasantly suprised that the bank used 1.50 euros for the exchange rate on my statement net whereas I only get 1.40 at the post office. If this will apply to buying petrol it might be cheaper.Regards,Derek- #7

Hi Electro, thanks for your question on fuel costs in Europe. Basically, you can bring your car into the UK with a full tank of fuel that's been purchased abroad without having to pay any additional fees on the fuel costs, as stated by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs. Hi Steven, thanks for your comment. we have just updated the figures so they are now accurate as recorded by AA roadwatch. The current French fuel price is EUR.1.32 for unleaded petrol and EUR.1.08 for diesel, while the current Spanish fuel prices is EUR.1.09 for unleaded petrol and EUR.0.97 for diesel. Hi everyone, I am going to France this weekend (26/10). We are driving from calais for 3 hours to get to where we are staying and then an other hour to euro disney. and obviously the same back again. What do you think the cost of our unleaded petrol will be? The car we are going in is an m reg escort 1.4LX and usually takes £35 to fill the tank? I only just passed my test so I'm not sure on all this LOL. Cheers- #15

Hi there, Don't know how up yo date your figures are ,but in North Yorkshire we've been paying £1.11 per litre for diesel for about 6 weeks, and even futher North in Scotland from lifelong experience of holidays up there since 1960 prices are a lot higher. Depends on population density and supply and demand so I suppose it's difficult to generalise- #16

Why is petrol in the USA 1/2 of the price of anywhere else yet their cars/engines are twice as big?! Not fair man . . .We really appreciate your comments.
