In these cash strapped times we are all looking to save some money. We all want some added value to our holiday, and now is most definitely the time! On this note it is reassuring to know that taking a trip to the capital city of the UK and enjoying many of its sights with the family doesn’t have to burn a large hole in your wallet!

The Bank of England Museum
Entrance is free to this museum and you will all have fun learning about the role of money in society history through the interesting interactive activities. Learn all about how money has evolved over time, and you can actually hold a real solid gold bar!
Positioned next to the Royal Hospital Chelsea, visitors will gain an insight on how British military has had an impact on Europe since the 1066 Battle of Hastings. There are some fantastic exhibitions on display including medals of honour, jewellery, part of the Berlin Wall and even the skeletal body of French Emperor Napoleon. The Kid's Zone within the museum is a fantastic play area for children under ten years old. Here, the kids can dress up as soldiers, climb the rock walls, crawl through tunnels and whiz down slides! There is also a soft play area for babies.
The National Museum of Childhood is part of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and it houses fabulous toy collections that will mesmerize the little ones of the family! The toys include games, puppets, dolls and their houses, and other toys. The toys come from nations all over the globe. There are also plenty of antique toys and costumes that the kids will enjoy! The museum also offers children’s activities during holiday period and weekends, so check out this terrific museum that is totally free of charge to enter!
National Gallery and Portrait Gallery
Located to the north of Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery is home to some of the finest modern art in Europe from Rembrandt to Van Gogh. The children will love the National Portrait Gallery next door, and you will have fun as you all put names to the portraits of famous British people from the Tudor era to the present day!
This museum is situated on Cromwell Road, just behind the Science Museum. It is a remarkable museum, and you will find out exactly what it is like to be caught in the midst of an earthquake, find out what is beyond the earth’s surface, check out many of the rocks, minerals and gemstones that make up the earth’s interiors, and view dinosaur skeletons from the Jurassic Period. Children and adults alike will be fascinated by this wonderful place.
The British Museum
This museum is home to an estimated seven million artefacts from countries all over the world! These phenomenal displays will bring you and the family back to the dawn of civilization and you will find out all about the great races of the world from the Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese and Romans to the present day, as well as learning about life in Britain from ancient times to the present day.
Located at Exhibition Road, this museum dedicates its spectacular exhibition space to the worlds of science and technology. There are exhibitions held in house from the era of Stephenson's Rocket to the Apollo 10 space module. There is also a "Launch Area" for children where they can get involved in the fun but very educational interactive challenges about science!
Somerset House is located right in the heart of London’s West End, and is a great place for the family to visit. Make sure to take a trip to the Embankment Galleries which opened in April 2008. The Galleries encompass an area of 750 sq metres with some wonderful exhibitions. The Fountain Court area is a place where there are open air concerts held in the summertime, and where the best winter ice skating rink in London in located.
Visit the HMS Belfast
The HMS Belfast is a relic of British Sea Power of the 20th century. This wonderfully preserved ship is moored on the River Thames in between the Tower of London and London Bridge. The HMS Belfast was involved in the famous 1944 Allied Invasion of Normandy. The ship has nine decks of historical importance just waiting for you all to enjoy! A visit to the HMS Belfast is a wonderful experience for all the family, to learn about tales from the sea and how life was aboard a warship.
Holland Park London
This wonderful park, located just off Kensington High Street offers visitors a massive 28 acres of woodland, a childrens play area, a café, and an informative ecology educational centre. There are majestic Japanese gardens that are just waiting to be discovered. The venue often holds outdoor open air summer concerts, and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen.
