The Cork Midsummer Festival 2008 is running from Sunday 15th of June to Friday 5th of July. Throughout this period there is a vast array of entertainment types for you to partake in and enjoy such as theatre, film, dance, visual art, photography, sculpture, literature, poetry and family entertainment. The entertainment will be coming from all over the world, and include such performers as Indian magicians, African drummers, and of course there is also plenty of local and native talent.
Some events that will be taking place include "You’ve got to love Dancing to stick to it" by Julian Fox in the Half Moon Theatre, and consists of something between theatre, comedy and performance art; this event takes place on 22nd to 24th June.
Another fine event you could take part in is the Taste of Cork experience taking place in the city gaol. This is a gourmet food and drink extravaganza that is happening from the 27th to 29th June 2008. This is a new event to the Midsummer Festival and will feature foods from such restaurants as Ballymaloe House, Club Brasserie, Kinsale Good Food Circle, Fenn’s Quay, and plenty more.
One of the more unusual things you can see over the course of the festival is the Robodock which will be started on Friday 4th of July and Saturday 5th. The event consists of a wacky blend of art and engineering with large constructs made out of scrap metal, including a giant robot hand.
This is just a sample of the events taking place at the Midsummer Festival and there are many more events taking place. Why not head to Cork and have a look around.
How to get there: The events are taking place throughout Cork City over the course of the Festival. The central office from which you can organise yourself is located in the Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, located at the top of Patrick Street next to the River Lee.
