The Clonmel Junction Festival is entering its 8th year this July. This festival is a big affair for the midlands of Ireland and draws crowds from all over the country. Last years festival drew over 10,000 people! The festival runs for 9 days from Saturday 5th to Sunday 13th of July.
The festival includes all many of different entertainment styles so you are sure to find something that suits your groove. The events largely revolve around the performance arts such as modern theatre, street theatre, stand-up comedy, dance, and music. The town itself is dressed up in banners and flags that really add to the otherworldliness of the whole event.
The line up for the festival is quite spectacular this year with the likes of The Blizzards, the Republic Of Loose, the Saw Doctors, Ed Byrne, Neil Delamare and many more besides. Some of the less well known names to feature include Fidget Feet, a modern dance company with a show called Raw which features some high flying elements; The White Tent, a mini circus from Switzerland; Presumption, a group of stilt walkers from the UK; and there are many more.
There is also the Sensazione Eco Funfair which is fun for all the family and is also a great way of spending time between events. What makes this funfair unusual is that all the rides are made from recycled materials and all the energy used by the funfair (including the lighting) actually comes from the people enjoying the rides!
How to get there: Clonmel is located in County Tipperary, and is a cross roads for much of the south of the country. It is strategically located between the three southern cities, Cork, Limerick and Waterford. If you are travelling from Dublin you will want to head south on the M7. Keep following signs for Cork, until you get to Caher after about 160kms. Here you should see signs indicating Clonmel to the east, take this route and you will find the town after about 20 kms.
