Naples By Hire Car: Where To Go & What To See

You may well wish to start your trip round the area in the centre of the city, so why not kick things off by checking out the city’s main street – Spaccanapoli. A wander round the local area will reveal such majestic architecture as the Chiesi di San Domenico Maggiore, the Duomo Cathedral and the magnificent Palazzo Reale.

Be sure to sample the local nightlife, which buzzes along nicely like the city’s streets, while the pizzerias are legendary and so they should be – Naples is the birthplace of this famous Italian dish! Head to the old town for a wealth of bars and alternative clubs, or if you fancy something more upmarket then San Pasquale di Chiaia, Lungomare Mergellina and Piazza Sannazzaro are all popular spots for the trendy club goer.

Naples is also well known for it’s shopping, though where you go to get your gear depends what on you’re after. The Quartieri Spagnoli is an interesting quarter where you can buy handmade products and leather goods which have been made locally. If however its designer Italian gear you’re after then look no further than Riviera di Chiaia -  you’ll get all the top labels here.

Of course the sights and delights of Naples extend beyond the metropolitan area - you’ll soon spot the enormous Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city… Why not drive out to Pompeii and Herculaneum and see the famous volcano and check out some of the monuments that survived its eruption in 79 A.D.

Other spots well worth visiting in the area include the lively port town of Salerno and the dazzling seaside run of the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrentine Peninsula. Here you’ll take in charming towns such as Ravello, Minori, Majori, Cetara, Vietri sul Mare and Furore.

Another worthwhile adventure is a trip around the islands off Naples. Jump on a ferry and sail around beautiful Mediterranean islands such as Ischia, Capri, Procida and Postiano.
