The Italian Moto GP is the 6th circuit to be raced in the 2008 calendar and the Mugello Circuit is also one of the one of the highlights of the Moto GP year. The track is 5.245 km long, has 15 turns and a long straight which really allows the Moto GP class to show what they can do.
The Moto GP class of bikes are the premier level of bike racing in the world as they are purpose built and not restricted to modified production bikes like the Superbikes Championships. This means that even with lower powered bikes (800 cc instead of 1000cc), the Moto GP bikes are able to produce faster lap times! Though these bikes have a slower top speed when compared to F1, their higher power-to-weight ratio and small size means that overtaking is a much more common occurrence and this leads to more exciting racing.
The Italian Moto GP will be taking place two weeks since the French Moto GP which saw Valentino Rossi take his, record equalling, 90th victory in his career. This victory also saw him open a 3 point gap in the championship ahead of the Spanish riders Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo; with the Italian’s home circuit coming up next you can be sure that the gap will be expanding. Valentino Rossi has in fact won the Italian Moto GP for the last 6 years in a row, so he will be a force to be reckoned with.

How to get there: Mugello is about 35kms north of Florence, so it should only take about 50 minutes to get there on a normal day. However on race day there will be a significant increase in traffic so it may be an idea to head extra early or even head out the previous day.
