Cultural Ireland - The Ennis Street Festival

Any trip to Ireland will be a very rewarding outing for anyone looking for the best in scenic beauty or if you are simply to get away from it all. One other aspect of holidaying in Ireland that can be very rewarding to go out and experience Irish culture. One fine example of this is the Ennis Street Festival which is happening over the first weekend of July.

The Ennis Street Festival is a celebration of the summer and of modern multicultural Ireland. The streets of Ennis will be filled with various forms of entertainment over the weekend of the 5th and 6th of July. There will be a wide assortment of shows and acts being performed all over the town to keep you and your friends and family entertained all weekend.

This will be the 3rd year for this festival and it has been going from strength to strength each year. The secret of the success of this festival is the high quality of the street entertainment and the other activities in which you can take part in such as the dance workshops in the Glor Theatre, the Farmers Market, the Art Gallery in which you can buy anything you see, and the Cabaret Night in which anyone can get up and sing.

There are a large number of local and international acts taking part in the festival.  Some of the acts that will be taking place include Johnny Patterson, the Irish Singing Clown; Al-Sokaire, Spanish Flamenco song and music; Aranos, electro-acoustic music with East European gypsy influence from the Czech Republic; Fanzini Brothers, a comedy act by two West Kerry Italians; and there is plenty more acts as well.

Some acts for the kiddies include Mr Toons, an award winning circus performer; and there is also the Cork Circus, which features the exploits of Sir Michael as he quests to defeat the Witch Friccatella and her Dragon Binky.

How to get there: So you’ve decided you wanna go to this great festival, since it is being held in Ennis you will have to find some way of getting there. If you are flying in to Shannon International Airport then you will only have to head a few kilometres up the N18 and you are there.

If you are flying into Dublin, then you will have to head south on the M1, and then the M50 before exiting onto the M7 towards Limerick. Once you get to Limerick you will be turning north but you should be able to follow the signposts. This journey is about 240 kms long.

The best way to see Ireland is by car, and if you are going to this festival then you might also have time to go see the Cliffs of Moher or drop into Bunratty Castle.
