What better way to indulge yourself than by spending the week at the Cheltenham Races?
Spend three days soaking up the atmosphere of the races and betting on the horses, then celebrate your winnings (or forget about your losses!) with a wild party Irish style on St Patrick’s Day!
Many of you will be flying to England and driving to Cheltenham, (especially as public transport will be all but booked out), so we've compiled a handy list of directions from all the major airports nearby. Check it out...
Bristol Airport
From Bristol Airport head for the A38 and drive for 1 mile. Take a left onto the A3029, signposted the City Centre and head towards town. Take the A4 ring road, signposted Avonmouth. Drive for 2 miles and take the M5 motorway road. Leave the M5 Junction 11, signposted Cheltenham. Drive for 3 miles then take the A46, signposted Town Centre, then follow the signs to Cheltenham Racecourse.
Birmingham Airport
If you're flying into Birmingham Airport take the A45 towards Coventry and get on the M42. Drive for 6 miles then take the M5, driving for 17 miles until you reach the A4019, signposted Cheltenham. Exit here, drive into the centre of town and follow the signs to Cheltenham Racecourse.
Cardiff Airport
From Cardiff Airport take the A4226 towards Barry (and keep an eye out for speed cameras!). Keep going until you reach the A4050, that’s the Port Road East, signposted Cardiff (M4). Follow this road up to the end and join the M4 and drive for 6 miles. Leave at Junction 20 and pick up the M5 and drive for 17 miles, taking the A40 at Junction 11 for Cheltenham. Drive for 3 miles then take the A46, signposted Town Centre, then follow the signs to Cheltenham Racecourse.
London Airports
And finally, if you’re touching down at any of the London Airports, that’s Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted, the first thing you should do is make for the M25 London Orbital. From here take the M40, signposted Birmingham/Oxford, drive for 25 miles and get off at the A40. Follow this road for 50 miles, taking the A46 on the left, signposted Town Centre (Cheltenham), then follow the signs to Cheltenham Racecourse.
We hope that’s cleared up the question of getting there for you, so feel free to give us a shout and let us know how you got on. Any suggestions, opinions or even your own stories about Cheltenham are more than welcome. Best of luck with the bookie bashing!
